Freeland just kept running downhill, and eventually the Falcons landed in the end zone.

Freeland trailed 19-14 at halftime, but outscored Bay City John Glenn, 24-0, in the second half for a 38-19 win in the season-opener at Bay City.

John Glenn led 19-6 with 5:57 left in the first half when Freeland’s running game started to take its toll. The Falcons finished with 322 yards rushing.

Garhet Metiva carried most of the weight, gaining 144 yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries, adding a two-point conversion. Metiva also had seven tackles, including a sack for a safety.

Tyler Shea added 98 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries, while Tanner Hare gained 90 yards on 11 carries.

Glenn built its lead to two touchdowns when Jobe Long connected with Rory O’Hare for a touchdown. But that’s where the damage ended for Glenn.

“The more physical team won,” Glenn coach Jeremy Werner said. “We led at the half then got our butts handed to us after that. We stalled on offense.”
